About Us
Turdo Vineyards is a family owned and run operation. It all begins with Sal, he is the owner, as well as master wine maker. His vision, commitment, and determination is what turned 5 acres of woods he purchased almost ten years ago, into a very successful fully operational vineyard and winery. It took a lot work and time, not only from Sal, but from his family to make Turdo Vineyards what it has become. His wife Sara, and children Luca and Tanya, have been behind Sal, and helping him from the beginning.
His elegant wife Sara, who you will most likely see in the tasting room showcasing her husband’s latest vintages, has been helping and supporting Sal since day one. Whether it’s pouring wine for customer tasting, or helping hand pick grapes during harvest season, Sara is there helping in every way she can.
Luca, Sal’s son, is in charge of the vineyard’s marketing and advertising. And, most recently took over the responsibility of Turdo Vineyard’s bottle and label design. Which is set to change within the next few weeks. Like Sara, Luca also has been helping his father from the start of his endeavor, hand digging the vineyard’s first holes and planting the first vines. Whether it’s filtering wine, washing barrels, bottling the wine, picking grapes, or helping his mother in the tasting room, Luca lends a hand wherever it’s needed.
All the work and time needed to establish any successful business is extensive, but what makes this story extra special is that this was all done on a part-time basis. The Turdo family has been living in North Jersey for the past 21 years. They have been making the weekend trek to Cape May for close to ten years. Sal was a successful electrical contractor before becoming a licensed electrical inspector in 3 towns in North Jersey. He inspects three days a week, and on most Wednesday nights, he, his wife Sara, and their two springer spaniels Bella and Bianca, make the three hour journey down to other end of the state.
Rightfully so, all the hard work paid off, and Turdo Vineyards has emerged as of one New Jersey’s finest wineries. It has been honored with many honors and medals from various prestigious wine competitions. Many newspapers including The Bergen Record and The Star Ledger have written articles on Sal and Sara. About their success, what they have accomplished, and Sal’s dream coming true. Turdo Vineyards has even been mentioned on national television on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
